Scottie Scheffler Overcomes Four-Shot Deficit to Win BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler erased a four shot deficit in five holes and delivered another career highlight on Sunday at the BMW Championship. The world No. 1 chipped in from 82 feet for birdie on the par 3 17th at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, a clutch moment that carried him to a two stroke win over Robert MacIntyre in the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The win marked Scheffler’s fifth PGA TOUR title of the year and his 12th in the last two seasons.

His miraculous chip on the 17th, the hardest hole of the final round, landed about 60 feet short, then rolled the rest of the way, picking up speed, slowing down, and finally dropping on the last turn.

Scheffler began the final round four strokes behind MacIntyre but surged ahead quickly. He seemed poised to cruise to the finish, but the back nine provided plenty of drama. Missed short par putts at the 12th and 14th holes allowed MacIntyre to close the gap. A birdie at the 15th restored Scheffler’s two shot cushion, but when he managed only a par at the par 5 16th, MacIntyre converted his birdie to trim the margin to one.

That set the stage for Scheffler’s chip-in on the 17th, which all but sealed the victory. MacIntyre, who had struggled to gain momentum and did not record a birdie until the 16th hole, could only watch as Scheffler pulled away.

Scheffler closed with a 3 under 67 to finish two shots clear of MacIntyre. With the win, he became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 and 2007 to win at least five PGA TOUR events in consecutive seasons. Woods accomplished that feat five straight years from 1999 to 2003, and again from 2005 to 2007.

Winning his fifth title of 2025, Scheffler once again reinforced his dominance at the top of the sport, proving he delivers his very best in the clutch.
