Shai Gilgeous-Alexander etched his name into NBA history Thursday night, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s long-standing record for consecutive 20-point games by scoring 35 points in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 104–102 win over the Boston Celtics. With the performance, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander extended his streak to 127 consecutive regular-season games with at least 20 points, surpassing the mark of 126 set by Wilt Chamberlain between 1961 and 1963.
Gilgeous-Alexander reached the milestone midway through the third quarter, tying the game at 69 with a midrange jumper that gave him 21 points. He finished the night shooting 13 of 18 from the field while adding 9 assists and 6 rebounds. The Thunder, who have now won seven straight games, continued their surge since Gilgeous-Alexander’s return from an abdominal strain that sidelined him through the All-Star Game.
The historic streak, which does not include playoff games, has now spanned 497 days across two regular seasons. It began on Nov. 1, 2024, with a 30-point outing in Portland, and has since evolved into one of the best scoring runs NBA history. Gilgeous-Alexander has also scored his 20th point before the fourth quarter in 116 of the 127 games during the streak, underscoring both his consistency and efficiency.
Chamberlain remains the only player remotely comparable in this category. In addition to his 126-game streak, he also logged a 92-game run from 1963 to 1964, a streak that began after his previous run ended following an early-game ejection. Beyond Chamberlain, no other player has come close. Oscar Robertson recorded 79 straight 20-point games, while Kevin Durant and Michael Jordan each reached 72. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar posted 71, Kobe Bryant had 63, and LeBron James once strung together 49 consecutive games with 20 or more. Kawhi Leonard currently holds the longest active non-SGA streak at 44 games.
Entering the night averaging 31.7 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds while shooting better than 55 percent from the field, Gilgeous-Alexander is widely viewed as the frontrunner to win a second consecutive MVP award. The 27-year-old already owns an NBA championship, a Finals MVP, and a regular-season MVP, and with roughly a month remaining in the 2025–26 season, he continues to set the standard for sustained excellence in the NBA.
