Son Heung-min delivers first MLS hat trick

South Korean superstar Son Heung-min continued his strong start to life in MLS, netting his first hat trick for LAFC in a 4-1 road win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night at America First Field.

The South Korea captain and former Tottenham star has now scored five goals in six matches since joining LAFC in early August after a decade-long career in the English Premier League.

Son opened the scoring just three minutes in with a breakaway finish, then doubled the lead in the 16th minute with a strike from distance after being left open in midfield. He completed his hat trick in the second half, finishing off a two-on-one break with Denis Bouanga to put LAFC ahead 3-1.

The 32-year-old has quickly settled into North American soccer, tallying five goals and one assist in just six MLS appearances. His contributions have pushed LAFC into fourth place in the Western Conference with six regular season games remaining.

With Bouanga sitting third in the MLS scoring charts with 19 goals, LAFC has one of the league’s best attacking duos. Bouanga scored a hat trick and Son added a goal in last week’s 4-2 win in San Jose before Son’s latest heroics in Salt Lake.

After last season’s playoff disappointment at the hands of the Seattle Sounders in the conference semifinals, LAFC will enter the postseason with momentum and plenty of firepower.
