Taylor Fritz Defeats Zverev to Clinch 2025 Laver Cup for Team World

Team World def. Team Europe 15-9

Taylor Fritz capped a strong weekend at the Laver Cup by defeating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) on Sunday to clinch the title for Team World in San Francisco. The American’s back-to-back wins over ATP No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3 Zverev accounted for five crucial points in a 15-9 win, securing Team World its third Laver Cup title in four years.

Fritz, the highest-ranked member of Team World, dominated Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday in one of the standout performances of his career before returning less than 24 hours later to seal the win against Zverev. For a player who has remained inside the Top 5 all year without reaching a major final, the weekend marked a defining highlight of his 2025 season.

Australia’s Alex de Minaur, a late addition to the roster, also proved pivotal. Under the guidance of new captain Andre Agassi, de Minaur delivered win over both Zverev and Jakub Mensik in singles while also contributing in doubles. Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca got Team World on the board by defeating Flavio Cobolli on Friday.

After dropping behind early, Team World rallied at the Chase Center to outlast Team Europe and give Agassi a trophy in his debut as captain. The Hall of Famer, who replaced John McEnroe after his seven-year tenure ended in 2024, injected fresh energy into the squad as they celebrated their first Laver Cup win under his leadership.
