In 2022, Rolex made headlines at Watches & Wonders with the release of a highly unexpected GMT-Master II variation designed for left-handed wearers. This new model, reference 126720VTNR, features the crown on the left side of the case and a green and black Cerachrom bezel, both firsts for the GMT-Master II line. In watchmaking terms, this “destro” configuration is intended for those who prefer to wear their watch on the right wrist, a rarity in Rolex’s history.
The watch had an unconventional green and black bezel, along with the left-side crown placement paired with a date window positioned at 9 o’clock instead of the traditional 3 o’clock. To achieve this, Rolex rotated its in-house caliber 3285 movement by 180 degrees. Despite the change, the watch retained the same specifications as other GMT-Master II models, including a 4Hz frequency, 70-hour power reserve, and COSC-certified Superlative Chronometer accuracy.
Other familiar GMT-Master II features remain intact. The watch includes a bi-color ceramic bezel, a cyclops magnifier over the date, and a choice of either a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet. Luminescent Chromalight hands and markers ensure visibility in low light, while the stainless steel case offers 100 meters of water resistance in a 40mm profile.
Currently, Rolex produces this left-handed GMT-Master II only in the green and black colorway. It remains part of the brand’s current catalog, available on either bracelet style, and retails for $11,650.
