Tommy Fleetwood Wins First PGA Tour Title, Captures FedEx Cup and $10 Million Prize

Tommy Fleetwood of England ended years of near misses in dramatic fashion on Sunday, winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta to claim his first PGA Tour victory, the FedEx Cup title, and its $10 million prize. Fleetwood closed with a 2 under 68 to finish 18 under for the week, three strokes clear of Russell Henley (69) and Patrick Cantlay (71).

For Fleetwood, the win came in his 164th career PGA Tour start after 44 top 10 finishes, six runner-up results, and a record setting 30 top fives without a win, the most in the past 100 years. His perseverance finally paid off as he converted his third 54 hole lead of the season into the long awaited breakthrough.

The final round tested Fleetwood’s composure. After a bogey at the 10th hole cut his lead over Cantlay to one stroke, he steadied himself with back to back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 to regain a three shot lead. He held that advantage to the 18th hole, where he sealed the victory.

Fleetwood also benefited from early stumbles by his challengers. Cantlay opened with a bogey double bogey and never fully recovered, while Scottie Scheffler, who remained a threat despite an opening tee shot out of bounds, saw his hopes sink with a tee shot into the water on the 15th. Cantlay’s bogey on the par 4 16th all but ended his comeback chances.

When the final putt dropped, Fleetwood stood atop the leaderboard at 18 under par, completing not just a tournament win but one of the most emotional breakthroughs in recent PGA Tour history. Already one of the tour’s most consistent players, earning $33.4 million before his maiden win, Fleetwood can now call himself a PGA Tour champion and FedEx Cup winner.
