Tyrese Maxey Scores Career High 54 Points as 76ers Outlast Bucks in Overtime

Tyrese Maxey scored a career high 54 points on Thursday night, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 123–114 overtime win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Maxey tied the game with two clutch free throws with seven seconds left in regulation and finished the night shooting 18 of 30 from the field, 6 of 15 from three, and 12 of 14 at the line. He added nine assists, five rebounds, three steals, and logged more than 46 minutes.

Remarkably, Maxey did all of this on the second night of a back to back, his third game in four nights. He played the entire final 29 minutes without a break, carrying a shorthanded Sixers squad that trailed for most of the second half. His performance came just one night after he played 39 minutes in a 121–112 loss to Toronto.

Philadelphia has leaned heavily on Maxey as injuries have limited the availability of 2023 MVP Joel Embiid and six time All NBA wing Paul George. Embiid missed his sixth straight game Thursday because of a knee issue, while George made his season debut Monday after missing the first 12 games following offseason knee surgery.

This marks the fourth 50 point game of Maxey’s six year NBA career. His previous high was 52 points on April 7, 2024, in a double overtime win over San Antonio in which he logged 54 minutes. With Thursday night’s career high, the 25 year old, now third in the league in scoring, will see his season average climb above 32 points per game.
