UFC 303: Pereira vs Prochazka 2 Recap (Sports)
June 29, 2024
The main event ended with Alex Pereira adding another gnarly finish to his resume as the middleweight and light heavyweight champion. This was Pereira’s third knockout finish in the last eight months since winning the undisputed light heavyweight title at UFC 291 in November 2023 against Prochazka. Pereira continues his hot streak and has his eyes on moving up to heavyweight for the chance to become the first UFC fighter to hold championships in three different weight classes.
The biggest news of the night came with the co-main event featuring Diego Lopes, who was originally scheduled to face Brian Ortega. Ortega was forced to withdraw from the fight due to illness on the day of the event. Dan Ige, who lives in Las Vegas and was in the middle of a training camp for a fight on July 20th, received a call a few hours before the event. He was somehow cleared by the Las Vegas Athletic Commission to make the fight with Lopes official. Even with the last-minute change, Lopes secured a unanimous decision win over Ige.
