UFC 307: Pereira vs Rountree Jr. Recap (Sports)
October 5, 2024
Alex Pereira retains his UFC light-heavyweight title with a fourth-round TKO victory over 8th ranked Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main event at UFC 308 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This was Pereira’s third light-heavyweight title defense, and was visually the toughest fight he has had since winning the title last November at UFC 295. The official scorecards had Rountree Jr. up 29-28 on all scorecards winning rounds 1 and 2 going into the fourth round. Rountree Jr. showed heart absorbing big shots throughout the fight, but Pereira was able to land a right hand with a couple body shots and an uppercut that would ultimately end the fight in the fourth round
Rountree Jr.’s stock has definitely risen, and he should get another top-5 matchup in the future. Pereira looks to stay at light heavyweight and will likely be matched up with the winner of the Magomed Ankalaev vs. Aleksandar Rakić fight taking place in a couple of weeks at UFC 308.
