The UFC made its return to Las Vegas for International Fight Week, with UFC 317 taking center stage at T-Mobile Arena.
The main card opened with Payton Talbott grinding out a unanimous decision win over Felipe Lima, followed by Beneil Dariush doing the same against Renato Moicano. In the featured bout, Joshua Van delivered his breakout performance, defeating Brandon Royval for his second victory in just three weeks, likely securing himself a future title shot.
In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja dominated Kai Kara-France to successfully defend his flyweight belt, securing a third round submission in a largely one-sided performance. Then, in the main event, Ilia Topuria continued his meteoric rise, knocking out Charles Oliveira in the first round to capture the UFC lightweight title.
Ilia Topuria def. Charles Oliveira via KO (right hook) at 2:27 of Round 1
Ilia Topuria delivered a first-round knockout over former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (35-11, 1 NC), capturing the UFC lightweight title at 2:27 of Round 1. With the win, Topuria (17-0) became the 10th two-division champion in UFC history, and the first to do so while remaining undefeated.
The former featherweight champion backed up his pre-fight promises with a flawless performance. From the opening bell, Topuria took the fight to Oliveira. He cut him early, reversed a takedown in their only grappling exchange, and landed a devastating two-punch combination to end the fight. A short right hook to the chin dropped Oliveira instantly, with the follow-up left hook landing as he was already on the way down.
Despite Oliveira’s attempts to clinch and take the fight to the mat, Topuria defended well. Even when taken down, Topuria quickly reversed the position and gained control over one of the most best submission artists in UFC history.
This marks Topuria’s third consecutive stoppage victory over a former champion, adding Oliveira to a resume that already includes Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. With his 17th win, Topuria extends one of the most dominant unbeaten streaks in MMA history.
Topuria now has several contenders lining up for a shot at his newly-won title, including Justin Gaethje and Arman Tsarukyan. However, Paddy Pimblett entered the Octagon immediately after the fight to face off with Topuria and push the UFC to move towards putting together a title fight between them.

Alexandre Pantoja (c) def. Kai Kara-France via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:55 of Round 3
Alexandre Pantoja (30-5) successfully defended his flyweight title, submitting Kai Kara-France (25-12, 1 NC) via rear-naked choke at 1:55 of Round 3 to win the fight.
The reigning champion wasted no time asserting his dominance. Just 15 seconds into Round 1, Pantoja secured a takedown and controlled Kara-France for the remainder of the round, threatening with an arm-triangle choke and advancing to multiple dominant positions. Although Kara-France kept the fight standing more in the second round, Pantoja still outstruck him and returned to his grappling early in the third.
Once Pantoja secured back control in Round 3, the finish came quickly. He locked in a rear-naked choke, forcing Kara-France to tap and sealing his eighth consecutive win. This marked his fourth successful title defense, the most of any current UFC champion.
Following the fight, the UFC announced Pantoja’s next challenger: rising star Joshua Van. Van earned his shot with a thrilling win over No. 1 ranked Brandon Royval in a No. 1 contender bout, just three weeks after his knockout victory at UFC 316. Van’s win means Pantoja will avoid a third fight with Royval, whom he’s already beaten twice, and instead gets to face a fresh challenger as he continues to build his legacy.
