UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis Extends Knockout Record with 35-Second Finish in Nashville

After a one-week break following UFC 317, the UFC returned on Saturday night with a Fight Night card in Nashville, Tennessee for its first event in the city since August 2023. The night was headlined by a heavyweight fight between former title challenger Derrick Lewis and undefeated rising contender Tallison Teixeira.

Derrick Lewis added another highlight to his legendary career, extending his UFC record for most knockouts to 16 with a 35-second knockout finish of Tallison Teixeira in the main event in Nashville.

Lewis came out swinging, and Teixeira clipped him during the opening exchange, briefly backing him up. But as the Brazilian pressed forward, Lewis landed a powerful left hand that dropped him. He followed up with a barrage of right hands on the ground, prompting referee Jason Herzog to step in and wave off the fight.

Teixeira immediately protested the stoppage and may have had a case, but his illegal fence grab while trying to get back to his feet after the knockdown, combined with the unanswered shots he absorbed, made it difficult to fault Herzog’s decision.

Lewis has now gone 3 and 1 in his last four fights following a three-fight skid from 2022 to 2023. All three of his recent wins have come by knockout, with his only loss during that stretch being a decision loss to Jailton Almeida in November 2023.

Lewis might be in the best shape of his career, entering this fight at 261 pounds, his lightest weight in 11 years. At 39, he may be nearing the end of his fighting career, but he remains one of the most dangerous and entertaining heavyweights in the UFC.

With his form and conditioning peaking once again, Lewis may have one last title run in him, powered by his trademark knockout power.
