UFC Seattle: Adesanya vs Pyfer Recap

Joe Pyfer def. Israel Adesanya via second-round TKO (punches)

Joe Pyfer delivered a stunning upset at UFC Fight Night: Seattle, scoring the biggest win of his career with a second-round TKO of Israel Adesanya. Pyfer (16-3) finished the former two-time champion at the 4:18 mark of Round 2 after hurting Adesanya on the feet, taking him down, and unleashing a barrage of ground strikes that forced the referee to step in.

Adesanya, 36, looked sharp early, successfully defending multiple takedown attempts and controlling the opening minutes with forward pressure and leg kicks. He even appeared to have Pyfer in trouble midway through the second round, backing him up with volume and movement. The momentum shifted when Pyfer landed a counter left hook, followed shortly by a hard body shot and a clean right hand that visibly rocked Adesanya.

With both fighters willing to trade in the pocket, the exchanges grew increasingly dangerous. Pyfer capitalized on the moment, using his power to force a clinch and dump Adesanya to the canvas. From there, he transitioned from mount to back control, flattening Adesanya out and landing sustained ground-and-pound. Although Adesanya briefly defended a rear-naked choke attempt, he had no answer for the follow-up strikes from the back.

The loss marked Adesanya’s fourth straight defeat dating back to September 2023 and his third consecutive stoppage loss. Despite the setback, he remained defiant about his future immediately after the fight.

For Pyfer, the win represents a career-defining breakthrough. Entering the night ranked No. 14 in the division, he now figures to make a significant leap up the rankings, while Adesanya was ranked No. 4 at the time of the bout.
