Victor Wembanyama Records 100 Straight Games With a Block, Joining Ewing and Mutombo

Victor Wembanyama joined rare company Friday night, recording his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block in the San Antonio Spurs’ 126–98 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The Spurs’ center led the way with 26 points, 12 assists, and two blocks. He secured the historic streak with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter, blocking a shot from Hawks guard Dyson Daniels and sending it off the backboard. Wembanyama added his second block later in the game, denying a layup attempt from rookie Asa Newell.

The streak dates back to his rookie season. Wembanyama’s last regular-season game without a block came on Jan. 10, 2024, against the Detroit Pistons.

Only two players in NBA history have recorded longer streaks of consecutive games with at least one block: Patrick Ewing (145) and Dikembe Mutombo (116). Mutombo ranks second all-time with 3,289 career blocks, trailing only Hakeem Olajuwon (3,830). Blocks became an official NBA statistic during the 1973–74 season.

Wembanyama now has 51 blocks this season, despite missing 12 games after suffering a calf strain in a Nov. 14 loss to the Golden State Warriors. He returned to action on Dec. 13 in the NBA Cup semifinals, helping lift the Spurs to a 111–109 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder with a 22-point performance.

The Spurs improved to 20–7 with the win, reaching the 20-win mark more than a month earlier than they did last season. San Antonio will face the Washington Wizards on the road Sunday night before returning home to host the Thunder.
