Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named the NHL’s Hart Trophy winner as the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 2024–25 season.
Hellebuyck also won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goaltender, marking the third time in his career he’s received the honor (previously in 2020 and 2024). He was nearly unanimous in the Vezina voting, earning 31 of 32 first-place votes from NHL general managers. For the Hart, he received 81 of 191 first-place votes from members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
With this third Vezina win in the last six seasons, Hellebuyck joins an elite group—Patrick Roy, Dominik Hasek, and Martin Brodeur—as the only goaltenders to win the award more than twice since 1981.
Hellebuyck also became just the sixth player in NHL history to win both the Hart and Vezina trophies in the same season. He joins Jacques Plante (1962), Dominik Hasek (1997, 1998), Jose Theodore (2002), and Carey Price (2015) in the rare Hart–Vezina double club.
Statistically, Hellebuyck was dominant throughout the regular season. He led the NHL with 47 wins—9 more than any other goaltender—along with 8 shutouts and a 2.00 goals against average. His .925 save percentage was second only to Anthony Stolarz’s .926 who played 24 games during the season. Hellebuyck posted those numbers while playing 63 games, tied with Andrei Vasilevskity for the most games played by a goaltender this season. His performance helped the Jets finish first in the NHL standings and secure the franchise’s first Presidents’ Trophy.
However, Hellebuyck’s stellar regular season didn’t translate into playoff success. The Jets were eliminated in the second round by the Dallas Stars, and Hellebuyck posted a sub-.900 save percentage for the third straight postseason. All three Vezina finalists—Hellebuyck, Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles Kings), and Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay Lightning)—were eliminated early, with Kuemper and Vasilevskiy exiting in the first round.
